Kick Off : 14:00 GMT
Venue : Anfield, Liverpool

Manchester United make the short trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on Sunday at 2pm with Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez under pressure to pick up a decent result following 4 wins in a row.

Although the Liverpool owners have stated that Benitez’s position as manager is definitely safe, the Liverpool fans and team will all be praying to at least pick up a point from the huge derby game with Man United.

With Liverpool in poor form and Man United showing good form some will say that now is the worst possible time for Liverpool to face United, as confidence and morale will be at an all-time low, however I feel that when the match is as big as Liverpool v Man United then past form doesn’t really matter – it will be a cup-final like atmosphere and it will all be down to the two sets of players on the day.

Of course, good form matters some part and Manchester United will be the favourites to win this game, but an important aspect will be down to who is actually fit for the game. Liverpool have been without Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres recently and have really struggled, and it is unclear whether either of them will be fit enough to face Man United.

Meanwhile United have been without Wayne Rooney, who is injured with a calf-strain, who will be desperate to face arch-rivals Liverpool on Sunday. Rooney’s wife Coleen is also due to give birth on the day of the kick-off so it may be quite certain that he will miss this match.

Liverpool vs Man United

Despite Man United’s decent form recently, the team hasn’t been scoring many goals without Rooney on the pitch and so they could struggle when playing against a solid defence at Anfield. The last time these two sides met United were embarrasingly beaten 4-1 at home, and Sir Alex Ferguson’s men will be desperate to get revenge on their biggest rivals.

For Man United Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs should both return to the side to face Liverpool, as they were rested in midweek for the CSKA Moscow match. Ji Sung Park is unlikely to be fit for the game, and Darren Fletcher is still a doubt. Michael Owen could be set to start for Man Utd up front with Rooney doubtful.

I would expect this to be another face-paced and exciting affair, with even more added spice coming from Michael Owen’s return to Anfield since joining Man United. There should be plenty of end-to-end action, but this could be a very tight affair if the likes of Gerrard/Torres/Rooney don’t feature.

My Prediction: 1-2
