Saturday, 5th December 2009
Kick Off : 15:00 GMT
Venue : The City Of Manchester Stadium, Manchester
Manchester City will be facing Chelsea on 5th December in the City of Manchester Stadium at 5:30 PM. The seemingly invincible Chelsea side crashed out of the Carling Cup in a midweek defeat. Mark Hughes’ City site advanced to the last four of the competition with a rather impressive victory over a young Arsenal squad. It is a different story in the English Premier League, since City were condemned to their seventh draw in a row by a Jimmy Bullard’s goal last weekend.
They sit three points behind fourth place on the table despite having lost just one match all season. They will now be determined to return to the winning column in the league and show that they can challenge even the best sides in the competition. Mark Hughes fielded a strong team against the Gunners and is not likely to make major changes for the games against Chelsea.
City reports that Robinho is almost fit to return to the side, having rested on Wednesday after coming back from injury recently, so is Martin Petrov. Craig Bellamy, Stephen Ireland and Shaun Wright-Phillips will all have to be assessed because of their injuries.
The Chelsea blue machine appeared to be making solid progress in all competitions until Man City shocked them and eliminated them from the Carling Cup on penalties.
Italian boss Carlo Ancelotti defended his midweek’s squad selection and he sure will hope to show that the penalty’s defeat against Man City is nothing more than a minor blip as he prepares to make important changes on his lineup. The Blues will want to regain the form that saw them cruising to a 3-0 victory over the Gunners at Emirates Stadium last Sunday and stay five points ahead second place at the top of the table. In the latest team news, Salomon Kalou is said to be out of the squad for a couple of weeks with a thigh injury, while Jose Bosingwa is a long-term loss because of a knee problem. Goalkeeper Petr Cech, defender John Terry, midfielders Frank Lampard and Michael Essien and attackers Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka are all expected to be back into the side’s starting line-up. Chelsea still appears to be unstoppable at the top of the EPL’s table and City is stuttering after a record-equaling number of 7 draws in a row, a record that they will like to put behind during the weekend.
My Prediction: 3-2
