Saturday, 28th November 2009
Kick Off : 15:00 GMT
Venue : Fratton Park, Portsmouth
The Red Devils will travel south to Fratton Park for their match against Portsmouth on 28th November, at 3:00 PM. They just ended their 23 game unbeaten run at Old Trafford in the Champions League last Wednesday night, after their 0-1 loss to the Turkish side Besiktas. The result was a bit of a surprise, but given the squad that Sir Alex Ferguson decided to send to the pitch, it’s fair to say that a Man U with their normal figures would have put up more of a fight against a much focused Besiktas. Since Danny Welbeck and Federico Macheda led United’s attack, this gives a good indication of the caliber of the line-up that Sir Alex elected to play with.
After this loss, Manchester United is once again focused in the Premier League. Man Utd reports that there will be fitness tests for South Korean midfielder Park Ji-Sung (knee) and defender Jonny Evans (calf), while striker Dimitar Berbatov is expected to be ready to play for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side.
In their last Premiership match, things went smoothly for the Red Devils as they destroyed a poor Everton side, defeating the Toffees by a score of 3-0.
Portsmouth’s present is obscure. Their inability to record wins is starting to doom their aspirations of maintaining their Premier League spot at the end of the season.
Portsmouth sits last in the EPL’s table and has only two victories this season. They are the only club out of the twenty Premier League sides to have double digits in their loss column. However, their most recent play has been much improved, keeping in mind that the club lost its first seven matches of the season. In their latest match against Stoke, Portsmouth showed some signs of life. Ricardo Fuller scored the only goal of the game for Stoke, but Portsmouth wasted a golden opportunity to take the lead after only eight minutes into the match when Kevin-Prince Boateng failed to convert from the penalty spot. Portsmouth’s news talks about the hiring of Israel’s Avram Grant replacing Paul Hart as new manager. The former Man Utd boss is back and will try to turn the club’s fate around having already worked there in the 2006/07 season. This weekend Portsmouth will be without right-back Steve Finnan (groin), defender Linvoy Primus (ankle), midfielder Papa Bouba Diop (hamstring) and striker John Utaka (thigh) because of their injuries.
My Prediction: 1-4
