Sunday, 20th December 2009
Kick Off : 16:00 GMT
Venue : Upton Park, West Ham

The game features West Ham United and Chelsea playing at Upton Park on Sunday, 20th December at 4:00 PM. The match will be played between a Chelsea side with 40 points comapred to the Hammers 17 points. Surely Gianfranco Zola would want to see his West Ham United side going through a ‘crisis’ similar to that Carlo Ancellotti at Chelsea. When the Italian bosses meet at Upton Park on Sunday afternoon, anything but a victory for the hosts could well find the Hammers amidst a relegation battle and a real crisis. Zola and his squad will be struggling to get any rest however as the Hammers have managed to gain just four points from their last six games.

Takeover rumors, financial problems, injuries and suspensions have all played their role in what could be a disastrous situation for the club. The Italian Zola teaches a free-flowing, attacking game but this may be proving his side’s undoing as they continue to look vulnerable in defence and without power up front because of the absence of the injured Carlton Cole.

West Ham will Matthew Upson coming back from injury for Sunday’s home game against Chelsea at Upton Park.

Chelsea will be still without Michael Essien and Jose Bosingwa. Joe Cole and Florent Malouda, both rested for the midweek could play, as Didier Drogba and Ricardo Carvalho.

Chelsea arrive after obtaining their first win in five games in EPL and European competitions, although they needed a late penalty goal scored by Frank Lampard to defeat Portsmouth on Wednesday night. After their streak of convincing victories last month, Italian Carlo Ancelotti’s side have slowed down a bit as of late. Their victory against the league’s bottom of the table club was truly less than convincing. The Blues have now conceded 11 goals in their last five games and looked quite nervous on the deffensive side against Portsmouth. The odd makers must have Chelsea as their favourites.

The West London side have had consecutive victories on their last four visits to Upton Park and have not being beaten in the last nine meetings with the Hammers, having won eight of those matches and drawn one. In the game that both sides played last season Chelsea won narrowly with a goal from Salomon Kalou, their fourth straight victorious visit at the Hammer’s home. In that span the Chelsea Blues have scored 12 goals, conceding just two to West Ham.

My Prediction: 2-2
