Hull City marked their home return to the Premier League with a famous 1-0 win over visitors Norwich City despite going down to 10 men shortly after they took the lead. The KC Stadium was rocking right from the off as the Hull City supporters were all too happy to see their side back in the Premier League after a 3 year exile. They got off to a flying start as well with Irish midfielder Robbie Brady scoring a penalty on 22 minutes to give them the lead after Yannick Sagbo was dragged down while going up for a header. It was Sagbo though who appeared to re-write the script of the game again only 6 minutes later, when he was shown a straight red card for an attempted head-butt on a Norwich City player during a corner kick. That left Hull down a man and from that point in the match onwards, Norwich maintained the lion’s share of the possession. Despite having the likes of Ricky van Wolfswinkel in the starting 11 and the inclusion of Robert Snodgrass and Wes Hoolahan at the break, Norwich were unable to break down a resilient Hull City backline. The Canaries were very sloppy throughout the match with misdirected passes and turnovers galore, and as a result they only had one clear-cut chance to equalize through a van Wolfswinkel header that was tipped over the bar by Allan McGregor. Norwich wouldn’t get a better chance than that one and Hull survived for the 1-0 win and a crucial 3 points.
