Daniel Sturridge and Liverpool made it 3 wins in 3 games on Sunday afternoon as they saw off Manchester United 1-0 at a bouncing Anfield. The atmosphere was top notch right from the off and it didn’t take Anfield long to roar with delight as Sturridge grabbed the game’s lone goal in just the 3rd minute of play. It came off of a corner kick for Liverpool with Daniel Agger managing to direct the ball goalwards before Sturridge evaded the grasp of Patrice Evra and re-directed the ball in past the Frenchman to give the Reds the lead. Surprisingly, United rarely threatened in response to the goal with Robin Van Persie having a very poor game up front and even getting himself involved in a few skirmishes with Stevie G and others. Phil Jones was forced off due to injury just before the half for United and Antonio Velancia came on in his place and did a very good job of keeping the deficit at only one. David Moyes also introduced Javier Hernandez in the 73rd minute in place of Ryan Giggs, who had struggled mightily with the pace of the game up to that point. Moyes’ changes yielded no results though with Simon Mignolet having to make only a couple decent saves in goal with Liverpool securing the 3 points and top spot in the table after 3 games while David Moyes will now face his first big test as Man Utd manager.
