A quiet pre-season for Manchester City so far has ended with the news that Everton have accepted a bid for their talented young midfielder Jack Rodwell.
According to the Everton FC website, Jack Rodwell is set to undergo a medical on Sunday with the Premier League champions. City haven’t really been linked with Rodwell before so this move comes as a bit of a surprise, with bitter rivals Man United always linked with moving for the star English man.
So far the fee is undisclosed but its likely to be in the £20million plus bracket with the youngster making some very assured performances in the centre of the Everton midfield last season. His signing could be related to the home-grown quota that is being phased into the game slowly, with Man City adding another Englishman to their ranks.
Personally I don’t understand how Rodwell is likely to force his way into the team when they already have countless top-class midfielders, a player like Jack needs lots of playing time to learn and improve and I can’t see that really happening at City.
