Everton were quite literally the movers and shakers on this Deadline Day, gaining 3 quality players while also losing 2 in a day full of tension. To start with the positives for the Toffees, they gained Romelu Lukaku for the remainder of the season after Chelsea sent the forward on loan for the second straight year, this time to Everton after he was tremendous at West Brom in the same role last year. Gareth Barry and James McCarthy have also joined the Liverpool side, strengthening the midfield after making moves from Man City and Wigan respectively.
In the losing column for Everton, Marouane Fellaini and Victor Anichebe have both left the club permanently. With the former finally making his much hyped move to Manchester United for a reported 27.5 Million Pounds while the latter departs for West Bromwich Albion. The Fellaini move gives United something to hang their hat on this transfer window (along with the loan of Contreao, but more on that later), while the Anichebe move looks to solve West Brom’s current problem of scoring any type of goal. Let us all have a moment of silence for Fellaini’s afro, who we will no longer see in Everton’s stunning silver kit….
