The Premier League’s Top 4 were all drawn against each other in the FA Cup 5th Round Draw earlier today, with Manchester City drawn at home to Chelsea while Arsenal will host Liverpool
The 5th Round Draw, completed following Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Stoke, took place at the famed Wembley Stadium and was handled by father-son pair Troy and Andros Townsend (of Spurs). The draw itself got off to a hot start right away with Man City-Chelsea the first 2 sides pulled out of the hat (clear bowl). This was quickly followed by the reveal of Arsenal-Liverpool as the second mega-clash of the round, a reveal that came after Sheffield United/Fulham were drawn at home to Nottingham Forest/Preston North End in a matchup featuring 2 sides who will have to go through a replay to reach the promise land of the 5th round. The halfway point of the draw was reached one game later, after Championship side Brighton and Hove Albion were given a quite winnable home tie against Hull City.
Obviously not as pulsating as the first 4 games drawn, the latter 4 produced a couple decent ties as well with current cup-holders Wigan Athletic landing an away day at Premiership cellar-dwellers Cardiff City, while we will have at least 1 Championship side in the 6th Round draw with Sheffield Wednesday set to host Charlton Athletic at Hillsborough. The final 2 matches of the 5th Round are set to be all Premier League affairs with Sunderland hosting Southampton and Swansea City traveling to Goodison to take on current cup-holding manager Roberto Martinez and Everton.
Draws are to be played over the 15th and 16th of February.
