Some of you may have heard by now that there is a film due to be released on 12th June called ‘Looking for Eric’ and it is indeed, a story surrounding the ex-United legend, Eric ‘collar up’ Cantona.

I’ve actually seen a trailer for the film. Not because I’ve looked online I might add – because i went to the cinema recently and it was on there. I can’t say it would appeal to me in the slightest, although United fans may want to give it a go.

The film tells the story of a postman called Eric (how uncanny?!) who looks towards his idol, Eric Cantona, for inspiration, during a hard time in his life.

Steve Evets, who played the postman, had no idea Cantona would be playing himself in the film – until the charismatic Frenchman showed up one day on set!

Interestingly, the film’s script-writer, Paul Laverty, an avid Celtic fan, originally wanted to write the film about the Hoops legendary number 7, Jimmy Johnstone. I’m unsure why this never materialised, but Laverty said working with Cantona was a great consolation. Great consolation? I bet he didn’t say that to his face though did he? He would’ve told Cantona he was the top choice, for fear of being kung-fu kicked outta town!

Laverty also described Cantona as a ‘gem’, ‘ very modest’, and a ‘bright man’…..just in case Cantona had any ideas about throwing him a headbutt.

Whether or not the film is worth a watch – though I’m guessing it’s probably not worth the £7 entry fee (yes cinema is cheaper in Norwich compared to your bigger cities all right, but it’s still a rip-off! What with the popcorn and nachos they rub into your face…not to mention Ben and Jerry’s! Sorry I digress……) So, perhaps wait for the DVD, or better still, when it’s on TV. And maybe then just record it for a rainy day……
