Celtic travel to Ibrox on Sunday lunchtime with the club 4 points clear of their greatest rivals Rangers, who have been through a bad patch of form recently, losing once in the Champions League, drawing 3 and winning just 1 of their last 6 games. Celtic meanwhile have won 3 matches, lost once in the Champions League, and drawn 2 games.

It has been clear to see where Rangers have been struggling and that is in the goal-scoring department, with the side scoring just 4 times in 6 matches. Celtic meanwhile have scored 11 times in 6 games, and under manager Tony Mowbray the side seem to be coming along very nicely, despite not playing the kind of football that you would associate with Mowbray.

Rangers vs Celtic is always a very heated and intense fixture and this encounter should be no different, Rangers will have the advantage of playing at home and will be desperate to win the game to move just 1 point behind the current SPL leaders Celtic. Bad form usually goes out the window for these kind of matches so you would expect this to be a very exciting encounter with no clear favourite to win.

Ex-Celtic striker and now Rangers frontman Kenny Miller was rested for the midweek European match versus Sevilla in which the side were humiliated 4-1 at home but he should return to the team in this vital encounter, despite having a hamstring problem.

Kyle Lafferty has had injury problems of his own and should be available for selection against Celtic, although it remains to be seen whether he would last the full 90 minutes.

There currently doesn’t appear to be many injury worries for Celtic, Aiden McGready should return to the side again, as should Andreas Hinkel and Paddy McCourt, who both missed out their clubs European match against Rapid Vienna, a game that resulted in a 1-1 draw.

Expect an incredible atmosphere for this game at Ibrox, the first Old-Firm derby of the season, and with Rangers desperate not to give Celtic a 7 point lead at the top of the SPL they will be battling hard and desperately trying to find the back of the net for this huge game.

It’s crunch time in the SPL, whoever wins this match will have their own fate in their own hands. Much like recent seasons nothing can separate the Old Firm. Celtic currently sit 1 point above Rangers and with only a few games left this may very well decide who the Scottish champions will be this year.

Celtic will be without arguably their best player this season Scott Brown, who is serving a suspension. They will also be missing captain Steven McManus who is ruled out through injury. However Gordon Strachan has plenty of cover in the centre of defence with Glenn Loovens or Darren O’Dea likely to step in.

Rangers also have injury problems of their own with Barry Ferguson, Sasa Papac, Lee McCulloch & Kirk Broadfoot all sidelined for this match. However Rangers fans will be glad to see the return of Majid Bougherra to the centre of defence after serving his suspension.

My Prediction: 2-1 Celtic
