Kick Off : 19:30 BST
Venue : Soccer City Stadium, Johannesburg – South Africa
The World Cup Group D game between Ghana and Germany will take place at the Soccer City Stadium on Wednesday 23rd June 2010; kick-off set for 7:30 PM. Ghana’s preparation for this game has been overshadowed by a Muntari’s acting up. Sulley Muntari was reportedly sent home after insulting coach Milovan Rajevac, but was then recalled to the squad. Now Rajevac needs to keep his side’s focus on things inside the pitch as if they reach the last 16, they could be carrying the only hopes of a whole continent on their shoulders after other African sides are on their way out of the tournament.
The other subplot surrounding this game focuses on the presence of the Boateng brothers, Ghana’s Kevin-Prince and Germany’s Jerome. They could become the first siblings to play for different countries at the World Cup. Additionally Kevin-Prince is public enemy number one in Germany after his tackle on Michael Ballack in the FA Cup final that ruled the German captain out of the World Cup. Furthermore, the two brothers are not on speaking terms at this moment.
Ghana’s John Mensah and Issac Vorsah have returned to training after missing the match with Australia. Sulley Muntari has been disciplined but will remain in the squad.

Germany coach Joachim Loew will have to deal with Miroslav Klose’s suspension, so Cacau, who scored against Australia, is likely to play up front form the start.
The mountain of pressure is on Joachim Löw’s Germany, now the subject of criticism back home and at the centre of a political power struggle, with his team having to produce the sort of form which saw them brush away Australia in the opening game. Having the problem Miroslav Klose being suspended much will rest for Germany on Lukas Podolski’s scoring instincts this after Germany’s performance in their opening game against Australia had everyone thinking they were title contenders.
In their first group game they had again showed that they save their best for the big football stage. However, a rather subdued display in a slow-paced contest against Serbia has left the German side sweating on their progression out of Group D. Coach Joachim Loew talked to the press and has promised that they will pick up the tempo when they face the Ghanaians as reportedly fitness is written with a capital ‘F’ in the Germany squad, in Loew’s very strong choice of words.
My prediction: 2-1
