Saturday, June 19th 2010
Kick Off : 12:30 BST
Venue : Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban – South Africa
The opening match of the second round on group E of the World Cup between Holland and Japan will be played at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on 19 June 2010, kick-off set for 12:30 PM. How or why the Dutch have not previously won a World Cup could be one of football’s great mysteries. The creators of the notion of ‘Total Football’ enjoyed great success in the 1970s, reaching the tournament’s final in 1974 and 1978, but just could not lift the trophy. Coach Bert van Marwijk is now attempting to lead this new squad of hopefuls to the ultimate glory at long last.
The early signs in the competition are quite promising for the Dutch, who are currently rated as the fourth best side in the world by FIFA, having been as high as second in the rankings just 12 months ago. In the first round Denmark proved to be a tough nut to crack in the opening game, but once they were ahead there was no looking back for the Oranje, who moved to a 2-0 final victory.
Holland coach Bert van Marwijk is expected to use the same line-up that faced Denmark. Arjen Robben continues his recovery from a hamstring injury.

Japanese coach Takeshi Okada opted for a defensive 4-1-4-1 formation against Cameroon and is expected to field the same men that started that match against the Dutch.
History says that Japan have never gone beyond the group stage of the World Cup when playing outside their own country, but Monday’s historic first victory over Cameroon has given the Blue Samurai side some much-needed self-belief. Takeshi Okada’s team are being hailed as true heroes in their homeland following their first-ever World Cup win on foreign soil and they will go into Saturday’s encounter against Holland in a confident mood and ready to try and repeat their initial success.
Japan’s hopes will again rest on the shoulders of impressive Keisuke Honda. The 24-year-old player was singled out by coach Okada before the tournament as the Blue Samurai’s key man and proved why with by scoring the match-winning goal against Cameroon. The numbers show that Japan have won all five matches in which the CSKA Moscow attacking midfielder has scored, curiously enough the side has kept a clean sheet in all of those matches and Japan hopes that the equation works once more on the match against Holland.
My prediction: 3-1
