Seems that there will be a few big moves in the January transfer window with Portsmouth having accepted a bid from Tottenham Hotspur for Jermaine Defoe. He is now set to have a medical back at his old club before sealing a move.

West Ham have rejected a bid from Aston Villa for central defender Matthew Upson, believed to be in the region of £11 million. If this figure is true then it will be quite a surprise that West Ham have turned the offer down, considering their current financial situation. If Villa were to manage to sign Upson then they would have set another excellent English defender, although £11 million is still quite a large sum for a 29 year old.

And yet another huge European club have made an offer for Liverpool winger Jermaine Pennant – AC Milan this time around. Previous clubs to have been linked to Pennant include Real Madrid, Juventus, and… Wigan Athletic. Now I have nothing against Pennant as I feel he is quite a good player when playing week-in-week-out, but I just don’t understand why the likes of Juventus/Madrid/Milan are interested in him, surely there are better options? Or maybe he is going to be better suited for the Italian/Spanish leagues?
