Goodbye, Goodbye Cabaye

Yohan Cabaye has been reported to be in the latter stages of an agreement and will undergo a medical at Paris Saint-Germain.

It looks like Newcastle are nearing an agreement to part ways with playmaker Yohan Cabaye.  The midfielder has scored 8 goals in 19 appearences for Newcastle this season.

PSG have come forward with a bid of £17 million on Sunday which was promptly turned down by the Magpies.  They have since returned with an improved bid of £20 million which has been accepted by Newcastle.

It has become apparent Cabaye wants to leave in order to gain access to the upper echelons on European football; of which he has had a taste with former team Lille.  He would be able to do this with PSG who currently sit first in their domestic league and are into the next round of the champions league to boot.

Cabaye has also been courted by both Arsenal and Man United recently and although less needed at Arsenal than at Old Trafford both will rue missing out on the potential signing of Cabaye.

There is no doubt Cabaye will also be casting an eye to four months time when the world cup rolls around and he will be looking to secure a place in the France squad heading out to Brazil.  Although Newcastle is a good staging ground for this, PSG is obviously the better choice, allowing much more visibility on the European and International stage.

It is yet to be seen how well Newcastle will deal with this new challenge.  Much if not all of the attacking creativity in their 4-2-3-1 formation came from Cabaye, will loosing such a key part of the team be the final straw in their season?
