After just seven months, two transfer windows and no signings, Newcastle United’s Director of Football Joe Kinnear has resigned.
Kinnear’s departure, after signing a three-year deal in June 2013, has brought an end to his, not so successful time at United. It is safe to say that Kinnear was not a popular face at St James Park, with no signings in the two transfer windows during his spell.
The 67 year old resigned in the wake of the 3-0 home defeat by rivals Sunderland, where fans made their feelings clear chanting “Get out of our club”, along with owner Mike Ashley. Kinnear only has himself to blame. Famously known for telling the fans and the media to “judge him on his signings” was not the best thing he could have said.
The fans have never understood why Newcastle United is being ran by ‘cockneys’, the fans want passion and loyalty and for the manager and owner to understand how important Newcastle United is to them. The fans want signings, they want to watch their team play brilliant football with brilliant players.
Kinnear will always be remembered on Tyneside for failing his duties of being in charge of recruitment and fans will be relieved that this embarrassing episode is over.
With Kinnear resigning, maybe this is the start of the real Newcastle United.
