List of Footballers on Twitter

Twitter seems to be all the rage nowadays with millions of people all around the world signed up and tweeting literally anything. Footballers are no different, they seem to be using it as a medium to communicate with their fans without first having to go through agents, football clubs, and so on. Its quick, its easy, its short (limited to 140 characters) and so its a great way for footballers to express themselves. They might tweet to vent frustration as to why they weren’t picked to play for their nation (Rio Ferdinand), they might tweet to tell you about their favourite horse (Michael Owen), they might tweet to tell you which club they will be joining (Eden Hazard) or maybe they’ll tweet to tell you what colour socks they’re wearing that day (Joey Barton).
Regardless of their motives, Twitter can be a great way to communicate with fans and footballers alike. Fancy asking Alex Oxlade Chamberlain a question? Just send him a tweet. Of course footballers will receive many many tweets so are unlikely to respond to many, but its worth a go – and beats sending fanmail anyday.

Footballers on Twitter

Anyway, we’ve decided to compile a list of some of the more well-known footballers currently on Twitter. This article is not definite, and we can’t guarantee we won’t make any mistakes – lots of people seem to enjoy creating fake accounts and sending fake tweets on their behalfs. To give you an idea of how bad things get, someone once created a fake Martin Tyler account. Even Gary Neville suggested people started following Martin! But then it was left to Geoff Shreeves to tidy things up, when he announced that Martin didn’t actually have Twitter… (if you’re not on Twitter already, hopefully the above annecdote is more then enough to encourage you to sign up!…)
