MANCHESTER CITY boss Manuel Pellegrini hit out at Swedish referee Jonas Eriksson following his sides 2-0 defeat against Barcelona in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16.
The Chilean was disappointed in particular with the decision to award Barcelona a penalty when the initial contact appeared to be outside the area and also at the decision not to award Jesus Navas in the build up to that decision.
He called the referee impartial and even suggested that the fact the referee was from Sweden should mean he wasn’t given the game in the first place.
Lionel Messi went on to score the penalty, which also saw Martin Demichelis sent off, on the way to a 2-0 win for Barcelona, a scoreline that will be difficult for Manchester City to overturn in the Nou Camp next month.
It is likely that Pellegrini will face a ban for his comments.
