A whooping 10 goals were spilt between the 2 MLS fixtures on Wednesday night with Chivas-Dallas and Portland-RSL both racking up high score lines.
It was another dismal crowd at the StubHub Center for Chivas USA as they faced struggling FC Dallas, who hadn’t won in their last 11 matches. That pattern looked like it was going to continue in the early going with Chivas going 1-0 ahead through Brian de la Fuente, who did well to beat the offside trap before easily finishing into Raul Fernandez’s goal. That lead lasted a good 28 minutes and change as well before a deflected Blas Perez strike level the match for Dallas in the 71st. Chivas appeared to gain the upper hand though in the 80th when Jackson received his marching order for a second yellow card offence, but it was Dallas who struck next with David Ferreira chipping past Dan Kennedy to give the Hoops their first lead. Chivas through everyone forward after that, searching for a desperate equalizer but all they found was more pain as a wonderful curler from Ramon Nunez sealed the 3-1 win and gave Dallas a much needed 3 points on the road and down a man.Stat of Match: Goal Attempts (Shots) Chivas: 9 Dallas: 13
In another Western Conference matchup, it was 1st vs. 2nd as Portland Timbers hosted Real Salt Lake. The home side looked dangerous right from the off and grabbed a goal after just 24 minutes courtesy of a Rodney Wallace header from a perfectly curled Diego Valeri free kick. The visitors responded swiftly though with Nat Borchers bringing them level on 38 and Javier Morales converting from the spot to give them a 2-1 lead at halftime. Portland were able to find a goal of their own from the spot as well with Valeri notching the game at 2 apiece with his penalty on 57 minutes. Cuban midfielder Yordany Alvarez was then sent off with a straight red on 79 minutes to open the door for Portland, one they walked right into on 86 minutes with Kalif Alhassan surely giving the Timbers and their fans all 3 points. The game had another late twist left in it though and for the second time that night, a team down to 10 men scored a goal as Cole Grossman miraculously netted one in stoppage time to send RSL home with a point and stun Timber Joey and others at JELD-WEN.Stat of Match: Shots Off Goal Portland: 5 Real Salt lake: 1
