Neymar gets the attention but Messi will get the glory.

If you were to jump on a plane to Brazil right now you wouldn’t

be able to move without seeing the face of one man. On Billboards, TV and advertising every product under the sun the dreams of a nation rest upon the shoulders of Neymar.

Quite rightly Brazil as the host nation are one of the favourites to win the World Cup however, I think Brazil rely too heavily upon the Barcelona forward and his strike partner Lionel Messi will be victorious this summer. While Brazil rely on Neymar and do not really have many other striker options (Fred and Hulk are very good players but lack form and top match experience due to playing their club football in Brazil and Russia) Argentina are spoilt for attacking talent. Messi, Aguero, Lavezzi, Higuain and Palacio seem much better attacking options than what Brazil have available and this could be the difference.

Argentina should breeze through the group that contains Bosnia, Nigeria and Iran but some people doubt their defensive abilities. Their defence is weaker than their attack but Garay, Zabaleta, Campagnaro and Rojo are still players who represent huge European teams. Also the style of play Argentina play means they rely more on attacking and outscoring their opposition anyway so this shouldn’t be too much of an issue even if they do face Brazil’s rock solid defence at some point in the tournament. Mascherano and Gago would also act as the holding midfielders in this side to mop up any counter attacks from the opposition and if Di Maria puts in performances like the one he exhibited in the Champions League final he adds an extra dimension out wide. So while the eyes of the world are on Neymar this summer I expect Argentina to be quietly going about their business and eventually be crowned champions in their arch rivals own back yard. Although of course I will be praying that Roy’s boys will win their first world cup since 1966. I can dream right.
