If for some reason you’ve been living under a rock for the past 24 hours or so, the news is that Cristiano Ronaldo is set to join Real Madrid for a world record fee of £80 million (breaking the previous record which lasted a couple of days when Madrid also shelled out over £50 million for Kaka from AC Milan.

As a Man United fan I think this move will be okay, as long as the majority of the fee received is spent on new players. Ronaldo obviously wanted to join Madrid, and they didn’t seem like they were ever going to give up. I think we should spend that money on someone like Valencia from Wigan, or Ribery from Bayern Munich. I think if Ronaldo did leave though we would probably have to strengthen other areas of the team, just because Ronaldo had such an impact. For example a left sided midfielder would be a good addition, and Nani should be sold too, simply because he’s not good enough. Tevez should be signed up, or another world class striker should be signed if Tevez doesn’t sign.

One of the biggest disappointments from the sale from my opinion is that La Liga will now host the 3 best players in the world – Lionel Messi, Kaka and Ronaldo. I would have loved to have seen Kaka playing in the Premier League, even if it was for the likes of Chelsea. Messi wont ever leave Barcelona, and Ronaldo and Kaka will probably play out the remainder of their careers at Madrid. The Premier League will not be held in the same esteem when Ronaldo does join Madrid, thats for sure…
