I think its been known for more than a year that Ronaldo has had weight problems, I thought it was due to an over-active thyroid (that old excuse!) which became public knowledge a while ago, but theres no mention of this problem from the TV show. Ronaldo stated that by appearing on the program its giving him extra pressure and more incentive to succeed at losing weight, going on to announce that he wants people to be inspired by him.
Sounds like a great idea but someone like Ronaldo is probably going to cope a lot better with the physical exercise and grueling regimes compared to your average overweight person, and I’m sure they’d be thinking the same – if Ronaldo finds it hard to lose weight, a man who’s been a professional footballer all his life, then how am I going to be able to lose my weight?
The producers of the show said that they want people to realise that if you have an active, physical lifestyle and then just stop then its really not healthy, and that you need to continue with that level of exercise throughout your life – or you risk ballooning up like Ronaldo. This is all that has happened with him; because he’s stopped the football training and playing in matches he’s probably continued to eat like normal and so his waistline has just exploded.
Lets hope the show is as good as it sounds and that inspires many people, would’ve been great to be able to watch here in the UK!
