Video: Watch ‘United’ online

Today is the 56th anniversary of the Munich air disaster, which killed 23 people, including a number of Manchester United players and staff.

The football team was returning from a European Cup match in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (now Serbia), against Red Star Belgrade. The flight stopped to refuel in Munich and heavy snow made take off a real danger.

After a few failed attempts, the  British European Airways flight 609, made its third, and final attempt to take off, crashing at the end of the run way.

United is a British television film directed by James Strong and written by Chris Chibnall. It is based on the true story of Manchester United’s “Busby Babes” and the aftermath of the 1958 Munich air disaster.

The film focuses on the experiences of assistant manager Jimmy Murphy, played by David Tennant, and Bobby Charlton, played by Jack O’Connell.
