- Full time: Brazil 3-1 Croatia
- Croatia take early lead with Marcelo OG – Neymar levels.
- Neymar scores 2nd half penalty to give Brazil lead. Oscar rounds off win late on.
Brazil can count themselves lucky with a number of the decisions tonight, including the penalty and the decision to rule out a Croatia goal but a win is a win for the hosts who will expect to top the group from here. Croatia will gain hope from their performance ahead of their remaining fixtures against Mexico and Cameroon.
FULL TIME: BRAZIL 3-1 CROATIA
The hosts secure an opening night win over their European counterparts thanks to goals from Neymar in both halves and Oscar late on. Not at their best but three points none the less.
90+1′ Game set and match to Brazil. Following some Croatia pressure, Brazil counter and Oscar toe pokes it in from around 20 yards. The hosts, the favourites looks set to start with a win.
90′ Croatia go close again as Julio Cesar makes an unconvincing save. There will be four added minutes.
87′ Luiz Gustavo goes into the book following a crunching tackle on Luka Modric. Brazil take off their two goal hero Neymar and look to sure things up by bringing on Chelsea’s Ramires.
85′ This time Julio Cesar is forced to make a save as Luka Modric lines up a shot from outside the area. Five minutes to go and Croatia are pressing.
83′ Croatia have a goal ruled out, and there is a bit of confusion why. Olic challenged for the ball with Julio Cesar following a hanging cross from the right and the ball was tucked in. Did the original cross go out of play or was Olic judged to have fouled Cesar? If so, Croatia can count themselves unlucky.
77′ Another change for Croatia as they bring on Rebic to replace Jelavic up front. Can Croatia salvage something from this one?
76′ Could have been three. Oscar whips in a wonderful ball and David Luiz, stretching, heads it over. If he’d have left it then Neymar would have had a tap in.
Just. Pletikosa gets a strong hand to Neymar‘s penatly but can only palm it into the back of the net. Brazil lead for the first time on the night. Controversial decision and Croatia will feel aggrieved.
68′ Soft decision. Dejan Lovren penalised for dragging down Fred, who has been largely on the fringes of this game.
PENALTY TO BRAZIL
66′ Chance for Brazil as Neymar wins a free-kick in a dangerous area. Dani Alves steps up and hits the ball over the bar. Less than 25 minutes to go. Brazil make another change, bringing on Bernard for Hulk.
62′ First changes of the night for both sides as Mateo Kovacic is replaced by Marcelo Brozovic for Croatia and Hernanes comes on for Paulinho in the Brazil midfield.
56′ Not much in the way of chances here in Sao Paulo. Oscar and Neymar looking the most likely for Brazil.
50′ Brazil continuing the second half where they left off the first, on top. Yet to really fashion a chance in this second half though.
45′ We are underway in the second half here. Can the hosts complete the comeback in the 2nd half?
Half time: Brazil 1-1 Croatia
An entertaining first half which has been all about Brazil’s superstar, Neymar. Minutes after he could have been sent off for an elbow on Luka Modric, he equalised for Brazil after Croatia had taken a shock early lead when Marcelo put the ball into his own net. This game is very much evenly poised.
41′ We see the vanishing spray for the first time at the World Cup as Neymar wins himself a free-kick in a dangerous area. The Barcelona forward steps up and takes it himself but his effort is blocked by the wall, which remained behind the white line.
40′ Croatia certainly haven’t buckled since the equaliser and continue to look confident on the ball. Persic and Olic are looking dangerous in the wide areas.
Should Neymar have been sent off? Let us know on our Twitter page.
29′ A minute after he could have been sent off, Neymar scores the equaliser for Brazil with a scuffed shot from outside the area. Not his cleanest strike, but they all count. Brazil back on level terms.
27′ Lucky boy Neymar. The Brazilian is booked for clattering Luka Modric with more than a hint of an elbow.
22′ Brazil are nearly level. Pletikosa makes a fantastic save from a long range Oscar effort after a period of sustained pressure. An equaliser is coming you would have to think.
21′ Brazil are starting to get on top here. Paulinho fires a shot which is straight at the hands of the Pletikosa after a good run.
16′ Brazil are trying to muster some kind of intimidate response here. A Neymar shot is blocked and headed behind for a corner. Croatia still looking lively though.
11′ Croatia take the lead as Ivica Olic’s cross is flicked on by Jelavic and turned into his own net by Marcelo. Game on.
7′ First chance of the match and it falls to Croatia. Ball in from the right by Persic is headed wide by his Wolfsburg teammate Ivica Olic.
6′ Cagey start here as both teams try to find their feet. Brazil looking to get their full backs forward as much as possible.
