Zidane – A 21st Century Portrait

There was quite an interesting and somewhat mesmorising program on BBC4 recently titled Zidane – A 21st Century Portrait. The TV program featured Zinedine Zidane during a La Liga performance against Villareal a few years back. You could see from the program that the likes of Michael Owen and David Beckham were in the Madrid team, so you can see it was obviously quite a few years old.

zidane film

The weird thing about the program was that it actually filmed Zidane constantly throughout the 90 minutes of play – the camera rarely left the French legend, and it showed a very interesting insight into the play of Zidane.

It may not be the most entertaining of programs or the most exciting but for some reason I found it incredibly watchable. I think you just start watching and expect something brilliant to happen. Zidane showed glimpses of brilliance and also (probably most entertainingly) moments of complete anger, a la the infamous World Cup final with his bust up with Materazzi.

Anyway, if you have nothing else to do for 90minutes or so then I recommend you give this film a watch. You need to be in the right mood mind, and it might not be the typical kind of video to watch online, but its still a very interesting program and insight into Zidane’s world…
