Zidane Headbutting Materazzi Statue Unveiled

Don’t quite know what to make of this, whether its supposed to be funny, ironic, sad, or serious, but Algerian born artist Adel Abdessemed has created a statue of the moment Zinedine Zidane headbutted Marco Materazzi during the 2006 world cup final.

Its sad to think that Zidane has been remembered in this way – to me, he has been the most amazing footballer I’ve ever seen, he was simply a joy to watch and I wish he was still playing now. I don’t think he should be remembered for this moment of madness, but it seems now that at the Centre Pompidou museum in Paris they have decided to remember this occasion.
