Dida crashed to the ground after what looked a playful tap on the cheek by a Celtic supporter who had run onto the pitch seconds after Scott McDonald’s winning goal.

An online poll in top-selling Gazzetta dello Sport newspaper had taken more than 60,000 votes by midday with an amazing 83 per cent calling for sanctions against Dida by both UEFA and his club.

Gazzetta dello Sport was highly critical of Dida its match report was headlined: “Didastro: Milan on the floor with Dida.” It’s correspondent wrote: “Slapped by a supporter after the decisive goal in the last minute, the giant Dida is left floored as if he had been struck by (Mike) Tyson – and he leaves on a stretcher.

“It’s the last action, a symbolic image of a disgraceful night.”

Angry Milan fans reacted by saying that that club should take action against him,Another contributor called Spiritolibero (Freespirit) said: “Dida please go – put him on Ebay if you have to.”
