Michael Carrick Agrees United Contract

Manchester United midfielder Michel Carrick has agreed to a one-year contract with the club.

Since signing from Tottenham in July 2006 the 34-year-old  has been at Old Trafford and made 42 appearances last season.

He said “I am delighted that this incredible journey is continuing. It’s great to have the opportunity to work under Jose Mourinho

“I would like to thank the fans for their unwavering support”

Carrick’s previous deal which he signed in November 2013 was agreed to expire at the end of June. A-league side Perth Glory approached him about a potential move to Australia.

However as manager Mourinho prepares for his first season, he sees Carrick as a useful asset.

The Portuguese said “Michael has a wealth of experience from his many years at the club and that knowledge will be invaluable to me

“I am really looking forward to working with him”

Last season Carrick shared the holding midfield role with Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin.

Before Renato Sanches moved to Bayern Munich in May, United had been linked to the 18-year-old.
