Who are the favourites for the Premier League title at this early stage?

With only two games played each, nobody can tell who will snatch this years Premier League trophy, but there are a few teams already making a big statement of their intentions for this season.

Countless big name signings have arrived, along with an impressive list of managers, and so this season may just witness another incredible series of events.

Starting with the red half of Manchester, where they have two wins from two – both impressive wins away to Bournemouth and home to Southampton respectively – there is real belief that Mourinho and his star studded line up can create something special and dominate football once more like they did with Sir Alex. They have solidified a once unstable defence with Bailly, who claimed man of the match on his debut, while Pogba already looks to have settled into midfield and formed many good relationships with those around him. Meanwhile Zlatan has silenced his few critics who claimed he wouldn’t score goals in English football as he scored his third goal in two games on Friday night against The Saints. They look a real force to be reckoned with and have a very good chance of delivering in Mourinho’s first season in charge, just like he has done at his various other clubs.

In the blue part of town, Manchester City looked shaky enough in their narrow 2-1 win at home to Sunderland, but managed to comfortably defeat Stoke 4-1 at The Britannia, which is not often such an easy visit. It will certainly take a few weeks for Guardiola to instill in his players his exact way of playing, which will more than likely create similar success to that of his numerous trophies at Barcelona and Bayern Munich. With Gundogan, Sane and club captain Kompany all waiting to return from injury, and with the potential of bringing in either Ter Stegen or Bravo to take over from Joe Hart’s number one jersey, it really does look very promising indeed. Their squad depth really speaks volumes as every position is more than covered.

Chelsea look to have shaken off last season’s drama with two comfortable wins of their own. With Conte as charismatic as ever, and with star player Hazard back to his best and Costa back among the goals, fans are starting to see the Chelsea that they know and love. Two good wins from two has given them the confidence that they so badly need to fight for the top spot, and no European football could massively help their cause.

Arsenal and Spurs have taken somewhat of a back seat during the transfer window, and it may be necessary to bring in some new players to help their squad depth as injuries have already been a hindrance, while adding big spenders Liverpool to this list only brings the number of wins to two out of six between these three possible title winners.

Both Manchester teams are off to a flyer with two wins from two and a plus four goal difference, while Chelsea are also top scorers and have won two from two, but it is very early days indeed. Hull are looking to prove they can be this seasons Leicester City with a very impressive six points from six with no manager and a depleted squad of only 13 senior players.

Many factors will play a part in the long season ahead, and with just over a week left until Deadline Day the managers will no doubt be strengthening their options with a few more signings, and will also be looking to get rid of those who simply won’t cut it at their club.

Of course this is an early estimation of what we will witness as the season unfolds, but as we experienced last season, you never know what can happen in this crazy sport that we call football!
