The Europa League semi-finals first leg game between Hamburg and Fulham will be played at the HSH Nordbank Arena on Thursday 22nd April 2010, kick-off set for 8:05 PM. German side Hamburg have extra motivation to reach the Europa League final match as it will be held at their home turf, the Nordbank Arena. However, their current form is not good. They had a bright Bundesliga start led by manager Bruno Labbadia, but their Bundesliga title hopes have fallen away and they even are in danger of not qualifying for a European competition next season.
Hamburg’s problems are more serius after Sunday’s home defeat to Mainz. They hope that victory will come thanks to the impact that van Nistelrooy could have been playing against Fulham back line. Curiously enough, the Dutchman knew his time at Real Madrid was coming to an end left for Hamburg back in January, but Fulham asked Real Madrid him although the club did not come up with a concrete proposition. Now in Hamburg the striker still is very ambitious and has a lot to play for.
Hamburg forward Paolo Guerrero, is serving a domestic ban for attacking a fan, but is available to play. Mladen Petric and midfielder Marcell Jansen are injured.

Fulham are without long-term injury casualty Andrew Johnson. Nicky Shorey and Stefano Okaka are both ineligible. Clint Dempsey will try to pass a late fitness test.
Fulham is a side that will approach the tie exuding a great deal of confidence, having begun their Europa League campaign with modest aspirations back in July. They first knocked out defending champions Shakhtar Donetsk, Juventus and Wolfsburg on their improbable run to the tournament semi-finals. As some players have said the club has done really, really well to get to this point and they are eager not to let it go without a fight in Germany.
What they need is to take that extra step to the final at home. Fulham have not won something so prestigious ever in history. They will be looking to exploit Zoltan Gera in the attack, who scored twice in the win over Italian giants Juventus. He could again provide the much needed support for in-form partner striker Bobby Zamora. Fulham’s players have not been involved in a game like this before, that could helped them to play to win a key contest on the road.
