Chelsea travel to the Stadium Of Light for Steve Bruce’s first home game in charge of Sunderland with both teams having won their opening Premier League game of 2009/2010.
Chelsea’s first League match against Hull City at Stamford Bridge resulted in a 2-1 win thanks to a very late Didier Drogba goal after a stubborn Hull side had managed to hold them for much of the match. Meanwhile Darren Bent scored the only goal of the game as Sunderland beat Bolton Wanderers at the Reebok Stadium.
Despite the debut win for Steve Bruce’s Sunderland team, the manager was still not happy at the lack of chances that were taken. Bruce feels that his team should have won more comfortably, with Bolton’s poor first half performance gifting his Sunderland team with plenty of opportunities. Sunderland keeper Marlon Fulop made some great saves to secure the 3 points for their team, and he will hope to be in good form again with the visit of Premier League challengers Chelsea.
Hull unsettled the Chelsea defence on several occasions at the weekend, and Sunderland will be desperate to do the same come Tuesday evening. Chelsea will be the favourites to win this game, but despite their opening match win I don’t think this will be an easy 3 points for Chelsea. The West London side struggled to score against Hull despite many chances, and looked unsettled in defence at times.
Sunderland could proove to be a tricky hurdle for Carlo Ancellotti in his first away match in charge as Chelsea manager, but it should still turn out being an interesting encounter between these two teams.
